Coker College SMUG (Social Media User Group)
When I began running Coker College's social media presence in 2013, no campus-wide policy or procedures existed regarding college-branded social media accounts. This led to many abandoned accounts, a jumble of mixed messages, and an overall lack of consistency that was hurting our brand. It quickly became clear to me that Coker needed a Social Media User Group: not only policy and procedures, but also a "support group" of sorts—a place for employees to share their successes, learn from one another, and work together to create a cohesive social presence strongly grounded in our institutional brand.
Guided by lots of research, advice from peers in the industry, and examples of existing social media groups at other colleges and universities, I developed and successfully implemented the following new policy, procedures, and guidelines for campus social media managers. |
